7 End of Summer Cleaning Tips!

Last Updated on March 10, 2023 by Corynn

Can you believe summer is basically over! Kids are going back to school, I’m almost going back to work, fall decor is out, and The Pumpkin Spice Latte has officially arrived at Starbucks. That also comes with the end of summer cleaning.

Yes I know, we had a busy summer, and now it’s time to face the reality haha. This is the most I have been out since literally 2019 (Thanks Covid).

Now that I am going back to work in the Fall I really have to nickel down and clean out this apartment.

So I wanted to share with you the 6 tips I use to do my end-of-summer cleaning.

P.S (I’m giving away a FREE 2-page cleaning checklist! Scroll down to find out more!)

End of Summer Cleaning Tips

  1. Plan a day to start your cleaning

You may need to plan at least a weekend. Depending on how large your place is, this could take you a day or maybe three days to finish. Remember to take your time, and go at your own pace.

Please don’t try and deep clean your house all in one day, you’ll be extremely tired and will possibly do a half-done job. Take your time, it’s your home! Take as long as you please!

  2. Write a list of things you need to clean

Break down each room and decide which area needs cleaning. This could include; dusting, moving furniture, moping, etc.

For example, let’s use the living room. Tasks you can add to your list are; dusting furniture, sweeping/mopping underneath the couch, vacuuming the cushions, or washing throw blankets.

Your list all depends on what you clean weekly, and what areas you need to target the most. You can check out my cleaning checklist for a guide.

I have also added a page where you can create your own cleaning checklist based on each room of the house.

3. Tackle the room you least want to do

Have you ever left the room you wanted to clean the least, and end up not doing it? *raises hand* I am a victim of doing this!

So instead I always start cleaning the room I disliked the most (the bathroom). Then  I noticed I was able to power through and clean the rest of my apartment.

Orr, you can do the opposite: you can tackle the room you enjoy cleaning the most! This can also brighten your mood to clean the room you dislike the most haha.

  4. Declutter as you go!

I can’t be the only one who starts deep cleaning then all of a sudden you start going down memory lane and begin finding little trinkets from 5 years ago.

Take the time to declutter while you’re deep cleaning. This could include; old receipts, plastic bags, random items you left around after a night out. See if those items are worth keep or you should just throw them out!

Decluttering and cleaning can help so much time saving wisely. You won’t have to go over a room twice, you’re just going to get everything done one time.

  5. Donate

This goes along with decluttering. While you’re decluttering, have a box labeled “Donate” and start giving away some items that you don’t need.

Such as; clothes you have never worn for the season, books you haven’t touched in over a year.

Anything you haven’t used or worn and don’t plan on should be given away.

This is beneficial because a) you just created more space b) This means you can add more clothes to your wardrobe!!

  6. Fix any repairs you have been procrastinating

And yes, it’s the one that just crossed your mind right now. Yes, we all have that list of repairs we need to get over with, why not do it now?

After you clean that room, see what needs to be fixed. It could be something as simple as fixing your drawers from opening properly.

Plus this is a great time to recruit your partner for help! Because I know my fiance is already waiting for his list of repairs to be done. (This ongoing list started in May, yikes!)

  7. Try to have some fun!

Create a playlist you can clean up or listen to all the podcasts you have saved up. Cleaning should be boring. Make it fun!

  8. Bring out the Seasonal Decor!

Now that your place is neat and tidy, now it’s time to bring out the decor!! Bring on the pumpkins, the fall leaves, everything! Even your Fall clothes!
